Wind catchers: Ancient Persian technology to cool homes and buildings without electricity

Well, this is a cool, refreshing idea.  Literally.

The ancient Persians were incredibly intelligent, excelling in math, science, astonomy, astrology, and many other things.  Remember the Three Wise Men from the Christian nativity story?  Yeah, they are believed to have been Persians.  Anyhow, this video explains the wind catchers they developed to cool buildings in desert cities.  These wind catchers catch hot wind, cool it, and get it to flow through houses and buildings, to cool them.  No electricity and no air conditioners needed, and they even predate swamp coolers, which do one of the same functions, humidifying and cooling hot air.  As we in Southern California sweat through the last few days of a 100 degree plus (F- 37.7+ C) heat wave, this is a really cool idea.  Sorry, my brain is melted, I had to go for the pun. Chill out.

I've never heard of wind catchers before, but in the last week, the American Southwest has dealt with extreme heat, as well as power grid issues, which taught us one big reason why electric cars are still not a really good idea, until we have much more reliable, sustainable eletricity capacity.  There's a place for electric vehicles, but we're not ready for mass adoption yet, as a society.  Anyhow, building technology that cools homes and buildings in hot regions, with no technology, no energy needed, and minimal regular upkeep, that a great idea.  These wind catchers are something we should look deeper into.
